AMFM is able to successfully work with clients struggling with bipolar disorder by helping them develop tools to manage their symptoms in a healthy and productive manner. Our team is highly-skilled and specifically trained to work successfully with clients struggling with mood and thought disorders.

How does bipolar disorder develop?

Bipolar disorder is caused by a mixture of nature and nurture. It is usually a combination of brain chemicals and life experiences that trigger symptoms to arise.

Bipolar disorder is also known to be genetic.  People that have a family member with bipolar disorder are more likely than others to develop this condition.

Types of bipolar disorder

At AMFM, we understand that bipolar disorder can be challenging because of the extreme mood swings associated with this diagnosis which range from full mania to deep depression. Treatment is often essential for those that struggle with this disorder so they can learn how to stabilize and manage their symptoms.

MANIA

A manic episode can prompt someone to perform impulsive and dangerous acts such as staying up for nights on end while having an episode. In extreme manic episodes, someone may experience irritability, drops in mood, and even hallucinations. Mania is also known to cause delusions, feelings of grandeur, abnormally fast speech, or exaggerated self-esteem.

Hypomania

A less-severe form of mania, hypomania can still include serious problems like persistent insomnia.

Depression

When someone is struggling with depression, it can be difficult to thrive and to maintain a daily routine.

It often consists of:

Decreased Energy

Plummeting Self-Esteem

Feelings of Guilt and Shame

Hopelessness

Suicidal Ideations

Those suffering from depressive episodes have a likelihood of turning to substance abuse for relief. At A Mission for Michael, we know that it is essential to begin a stabilization process and establish a continued care plan.

Bipolar disorder not only disrupts someone’s state of mind but also their family life, personal and professional life, responsibilities, and hobbies. If left untreated, Bipolar Disorder can cause a pattern of rocky relationships, lost jobs, and decreased self-esteem. These behavioral patterns can create havoc on someone’s overall quality of life, but at AMFM, our team of professionals guide our clients down the road to recovery.
