Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy

A MISSION FOR MICHAEL

AMFM Healthcare’s collaboration with the Beck Institute allows us to provide our clients with the most effective, research-backed mental health care available anywhere.

World-class care calls for world-class training

Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy is world-renowned among clinicians, and has been for over 30 years. Co-founded by Dr. Aaron T. Beck, the father of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the Institute has pioneered psychological treatment, research, and training that have become the gold standard of evidence-based treatments. Beck Institute has shaped contemporary therapy practices with its rigorous standards and groundbreaking methodologies, making it one of the most prestigious institutions in the mental health field. The Beck Institute Center for Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R) was formed in 2019 to grow and disseminate the groundbreaking practice of CT-R.

Why We Train with the Beck Institute Center for Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy?

The collaboration between AMFM and the Beck Institute is rooted in our shared focus on cutting-edge, evidence-based mental health solutions. “As we continue to strive for clinical excellence, our leadership team conducted research to identify which clinical foundation is aligned with our philosophy that we have as a company,” explains Angeleena Francis, AMFM’s Executive Director. This exploration led AMFM to Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy (CT-R), an innovative approach developed by the Beck Institute specifically for individuals who have encountered long-term challenges and might have found traditional treatments less effective.

What is CT-R?

Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy is all about helping people with tough mental health challenges find their way back to a life they love. It takes the best parts of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and adds a new emphasis—focusing not just on fighting symptoms, but on building up strengths, setting meaningful goals, and doing things that matter to them.

CT-R is especially useful when recovery is stalled or nothing else seems to be helping. It excels at identifying what makes someone feel inspired and using that to move forward. Evidence shows that CT-R is extremely effective at helping people get involved in their communities, feel more motivated, and manage their symptoms better.

Why CT-R? Why Now?

The Need for Evolution in Mental Health Care

Traditionally, mental health’s approach to treatment has been shaped by the medical model, which goes like this: Disease → treatment → health. This method depends on diagnosing and treating symptoms as if they were isolated problems. While effective for many conditions, this method often falls short in mental health care, where the challenges are nearly as complicated as the individuals facing them. Mental health isn’t just about curing an illness; it’s about nurturing the entire person by considering their hopes, challenges, and the context of their lives.

Enter the much-needed shift towards a more well-rounded approach. Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy embodies this idea by moving beyond symptom management. Instead, it builds on a person’s strengths and dreams to encourage healing and growth. CT-R represents an important change in mental health care, offering a more balanced and meaningful path to health that recognizes and celebrates what makes us human.

The Strengths-Based Approach

CT-R moves away from a generic treatment model to one that’s tailored to your personal story, aspirations, and capabilities. This blend of modern mental health care respects and addresses your uniqueness, offering a path to wellness that’s as individual as you are.

This approach is perfectly in tune with AMFM’s broader vision of mental health care. We believe in more than just coping; we’re committed to helping you thrive. By combining CT-R’s emphasis on individual strengths with our holistic care philosophy, we’re creating a solid foundation for meaningful and lasting transformation.

Real-World Implementation

Life adjustments can turn your world upside down, and it’s not always easy to find your feet again on your own. That’s where AMFM steps in, providing a comprehensive, compassionate approach to help you navigate through these transitions. Here’s how we support you:

Training and Curriculum Development

Our implementation project with the Beck Institute involved an ambitious training and curriculum development plan tailored to AMFM Health’s unique client population and therapeutic setting. The Beck Institute meticulously crafted a custom curriculum for us, deeply rooted in the principles of Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy. As a comprehensive blueprint, this curriculum brings CT-R to life in our settings, ensuring that every therapist is fully prepared.

Whole-Organization Approach

But we didn’t stop with our therapists. Recognizing the importance of a cohesive therapeutic environment, we extended CT-R training to all staff. This inclusive strategy guarantees that every interaction within AMFM is informed by the principles of CT-R, ensuring a unified approach to care.

This whole-organization approach to CT-R implementation reflects our commitment to a therapy model that’s both inclusive and effective. By ensuring everyone on our team is aligned with the CT-R philosophy, we’ve created a supportive ecosystem that surrounds our clients with understanding, strength-based strategies, and consistent support.

AMFM Health provides a holistic approach to mental health treatment that prioritizes empowerment, resilience, and personal growth. This philosophy makes sure that every individual who walks through our doors experiences a supportive environment, tailored to their unique journey towards recovery. Training with the Beck Institute and the comprehensive adoption of CT-R across our team reflects our dedication to offering cutting-edge, compassionate care that addresses the whole person, not just their symptoms.
