Dr. Granese is a Board-Certified psychiatrist who has been practicing in Orange County since 2005. Very soon after relocating to Southern California he found the need to make better psychiatric services available to the public. Prior to forming the ACCESS Mind Institute, Dr. Granese was the Medical Director of one of the Orange County Behavioral Health programs. He currently serves as Medical Director for Southern California Psychiatric Associates and Chief Medical Officer for A Better Life Recovery and A Mission for Michael’s, Dual-Diagnosis program. He is on faculty at Marshall B. Ketchum University PA School where he enjoys teaching PA students

MEDICAL DIRECTOR, NEUROMODULATION SERVICES

Dr. Robert Bota is a board-certified Psychiatrist and a distinguished fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has studied transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) at Harvard University. He started and lead the first TMS program at UC Irvine for three years, where he was a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. The focus of his clinical activities and of his patient-oriented research has always been on understanding the interplay between psychiatric illnesses and medical conditions and on developing innovative ways of addressing the whole spectrum of psychosomatic needs in patients with complex presentations. He has published over 60 articles and book chapters and has given over 100 presentations at national and international conferences.

DR. MEGHAN MARCUM

CHIEF PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. Meghan Marcum serves as Chief Psychologist of A Mission For Michael in San Juan Capistrano, California. Dr. Marcum’s role is to ensure the highest standard of clinical care for each client. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Arizona State University and a doctorate in clinical psychology from The American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. She completed her pre and post-doctoral training in the specialty field of chemical dependency and has also achieved specialized training in treating traumatic disorders with eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Dr. Marcum previously worked in the Neurosciences Institute at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, California where she continues to hold full privileges. She has developed an interest in helping those with co-occurring disorders by examining substance abuse as it relates to neurological changes over the course of the illness.

JACQUELINE HOAGLAND, LCSW

EXECUTIVE CLINICAL DIRECTOR

Jacque Hoagland is a strong believer in individualized treatment plans based on each client’s strengths and desired goals. She has varying and plentiful experience in working as a clinical supervisor for state-funded programs, as well as being a clinical leader at A Mission For Michael, a nationally recognized substance abuse treatment center. In addition to incredible vision in guiding the clinical care of clientele, Jacque is a highly-qualified in EMDR, CBT, DBT, solution-focused therapy and is particularly well-suited for trauma work. Jacque was instrumental in developing a workforce development program for non-profit and utilizes her skills and connections to help current clients find gainful employment beyond treatment. Prior to joining A Mission For Michael, she  successfully opened a substance abuse facility where she helped write the license and  built the clinical program from the ground up. Jacque holds a Masters of Social Work from University of Michigan and has been a LCSW since 2011.

DR. BRIAN LICUANAN, PHD, PSYCHOLOGIST

PSYCHOLOGIST

Dr. Licuanan is a California Board of Psychology Licensed Clinical Psychologist. He received an M.A. in Psychology from Pepperdine University as well as an M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his doctoral internship at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Dr. Licuanan has extensive experience treating individual adults and adolescents, couples, and groups presenting with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, substance abuse, ADHD, and eating disorders. He also specializes in treating sleep problems using Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia and is working towards a certification in Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Dr. Licuanan employs an integrative approach to therapy drawing mainly from Cognitive-Behavioral and Psychodynamic therapeutic approaches. Dr. Licuanan facilitates patient groups multiple times per week and sees the clients for individual sessions weekly while also serving as one of the treatment team’s clinicians. Additionally, he is chief clinician for a psychiatric medical group and lead facilitator for a family solutions group for the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) in South Orange County. 

MARTIN PENNINGTON, PSYD

 Dr. Pennington has over 40 years of clinical experience. He is a graduate of Boston University, Boston College, International College and Ryokan College. He holds a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology and has also completed additional training at the Cambridge Institute, Philadelphia Child Guidance Clinic and Hahnemann Medical College. He is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and has spent the past 24 years working in drug and alcohol treatment. Dr. Pennington is also a member of the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals. Dr. Pennington sees our patients individually and facilitates groups and Family Day. His personal qualities of honesty, assertiveness, spirituality and consistent positive outlook have gained him tremendous respect among his colleagues and peers at AMFM.

Dr. Beth Coke is a Primary Therapist at A Mission For Michael. She provides individual, groups and family therapy sessions for those dealing with mental health conditions, and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. She earned a BA degree in Social Work from Fresno Pacific University, a MA in Forensic Psychology from Argosy University and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Walden University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship in a community outpatient setting specializing in severe persistent mental illness. She is trained in CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused Therapy and Seeking Safety.  She has worked with trauma both in the US and abroad, spending several weeks each year in the Democratic Republic of Congo providing training and support with trauma survivors.

Ashley Lombardi is an Associate Clinical Social Worker who provides individual, group, and family therapy for her clientele at A Mission for Michael. Her belief system is focused upon the strength based approach, where she assists clients in identifying their own undiscovered resiliency. Ashley sees the benefits of utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused-CBT, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in individual and group settings. Within family therapy, she uses the modalities of Strategic Family Therapy and Structural Family Therapy. Ashley discovered her desire to serve individuals who were seeking assistance in becoming the best version of themselves by working with at-risk youth who wanted to break the cycle. Ashley graduated from Rutgers University, The State University of New Jersey with a Masters in Social Work.

Reno is a Primary Therapist at AMFM. A licensed clinician since 1985, the span of his practice has included private and institutional scope lending a wide range of experience from initial assessment and triage, through skill building and problem-solving in daily life, to the discovery and development of the independent self. Reno earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Family Systems from Antioch University in 1982. Mandy Madrid is a Psychotherapist that believes all people should have the opportunity to reach their full potential, contribute to society and have a voice. She has worked in a spectrum of services including community based, acute, crisis, residential, at-risk youth programs, and longer-term outpatient treatment settings. At A Mission For Michael, Mandy is a primary therapist who empowers clients by using an integrative approach to her clinical work, matching evidence-based treatments from Social Worker therapies, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioral, Transtheoretical Model and Family Systems that is individualized to each client. Mandy received her BA from Beloit College and Master of Social Work from The University of Southern California. Kimberly Naraine is an Associate Clinical Social Worker who provides individual, group and family therapy sessions for those dealing with mental health conditions and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. She earned a BA degree in Sociology with an emphasis in children and families from California State University San Marcos and earned her Masters of Social Work from California State University Fullerton. Kimberly firmly believes in the importance of utilizing various evidenced-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused-CBT (TF-CBFT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in her practice. In regards to family therapy, she uses the modalities of Structural Family Therapy and implements Attachment Theory. She strongly believes in collaborative work and has a passion for assisting clients through their mental health journey through utilizing humanistic and motivational interviewing practices.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Dan is a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor III under The Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California and a registered member of the California Association of Alcohol/Drug Educators. Dan also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies from California State University, Fullerton. He has been a Senior Counselor and Case Manager at many prominent treatment centers in Southern California before he came to AMFM in July of 2013. Dan brings over 15 years of professional experience in management of people and major projects. His leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills allows him to manage complex patient and family cases, support staff and contribute to the high quality, direct patient care environment at AMFM. Dan is a highly qualified counselor who exudes trustworthiness and safety – these unique character traits elicit results when working individually with highly traumatized and often dually diagnosed patients. Dan has completed his education as a Certified Clinical Supervisor at the Family Intervention Center and Training Institute for Addiction Counselors.

Sarah is a substance use disorder certified counselor (SUDCC) and serves as the Lead Case Manager.  She has been working in the substance use disorder field for six years with the last two working in primary mental health with AMFM.  Sarah enjoys working with this population as it affords her the opportunity to utilize skills she has developed such as compassion, empathy and advocacy with her clients.  She strongly believes working together as a partner with the client brings about long-lasting positive change in their lives.

Joshua Couture is a certified substance abuse counselor (SUDCC) and serves as a Case Manager at A Mission For Michael. At AMFM Joshua provides individual case management, group process and lends assistance to family therapy efforts when the substance abuse component is prominent. He draws on a variety of modalities and utilizes his personal experience to provide the best care possible for clients. Joshua graduated from Pepperdine University, Malibu earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program at Pepperdine University in Irvine.

Kaylee Clark serves as a Case Manager at A Mission for Michael. Kaylee earned her Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Civic Engagement from Northern Arizona University and is pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. She has been working in the field of juvenile justice for five years assisting juveniles affected by substance abuse and various mental health conditions. She has extensive training in Trauma Informed Care, behavior management, and direct supervision. Kaylee is passionate about working with this specific population and uses her experience to help clients develop self-confidence, problem solving techniques, and the proper tools to overcome substance abuse.

She is currently pursuing her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Hope International University. Kate has been working in the field for many years and has served many different populations. Wendi is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor II under The Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California. She is nationally and internationally accredited in the field of addiction. She also studied at the Breining Institute where she obtained her Certificate in Co-Occurring Disorders Specialist credential. Wendi has over 18 years working with people struggling with addiction and has over 7 years working in the field of cross addiction and has worked extensively with the substance abuse and mental health population. She has a passion for helping individuals in this specific population and uses her experience to help clients develop self-confidence, increase self-esteem, learn problem solving techniques, and learn to implement the proper tools to utilize on their healing journey.

She strongly believes in collaborative work and has a passion for assisting clients through their mental health journey through utilizing humanistic and motivational interviewing practices.

DAN ROBINSON

PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Dan is a Certified Addictions Treatment Counselor III under The Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California and a registered member of the California Association of Alcohol/Drug Educators. Dan also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Studies from California State University, Fullerton. He has been a Senior Counselor and Case Manager at many prominent treatment centers in Southern California before he came to AMFM in July of 2013. Dan brings over 15 years of professional experience in management of people and major projects. His leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills allows him to manage complex patient and family cases, support staff and contribute to the high quality, direct patient care environment at AMFM. Dan is a highly qualified counselor who exudes trustworthiness and safety – these unique character traits elicit results when working individually with highly traumatized and often dually diagnosed patients. Dan has completed his education as a Certified Clinical Supervisor at the Family Intervention Center and Training Institute for Addiction Counselors.

Sarah is a substance use disorder certified counselor (SUDCC) and serves as the Lead Case Manager.  She has been working in the substance use disorder field for six years with the last two working in primary mental health with AMFM.  Sarah enjoys working with this population as it affords her the opportunity to utilize skills she has developed such as compassion, empathy and advocacy with her clients.  She strongly believes working together as a partner with the client brings about long-lasting positive change in their lives.

Joshua Couture is a certified substance abuse counselor (SUDCC) and serves as a Case Manager at A Mission For Michael. At AMFM Joshua provides individual case management, group process and lends assistance to family therapy efforts when the substance abuse component is prominent. He draws on a variety of modalities and utilizes his personal experience to provide the best care possible for clients. Joshua graduated from Pepperdine University, Malibu earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree. He is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology program at Pepperdine University in Irvine.

Kaylee Clark serves as a Case Manager at A Mission for Michael. Kaylee earned her Bachelors in Criminal Justice and Civic Engagement from Northern Arizona University and is pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work from Arizona State University. She has been working in the field of juvenile justice for five years assisting juveniles affected by substance abuse and various mental health conditions. She has extensive training in Trauma Informed Care, behavior management, and direct supervision. Kaylee is passionate about working with this specific population and uses her experience to help clients develop self-confidence, problem solving techniques, and the proper tools to overcome substance abuse.

Kathleen Small serves as a case manager at A Mission for Michael. At AMFM, Kathleen provides individual case management, group process, family support, and development of personal growth for each client. Kathleen earned her BA degree in Psychology, with an emphasis in Family and Child, at Azusa Pacific University. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at Hope International University. Kate has been working in the field for many years and has served many different populations. Kathleen firmly believes that all people are deserving of love and kindness. Kathleen treats all of her clients with the respect and utmost dignity, which they deserve.

CASE MANAGER CADC II, ICADC

Wendi is a Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor II under The Addiction Counselor Certification Board of California. She is nationally and internationally accredited in the field of addiction. She also studied at the Breining Institute where she obtained her Certificate in Co-Occurring Disorders Specialist credential. Wendi has over 18 years working with people struggling with addiction and has over 7 years working in the field of cross addiction and has worked extensively with the substance abuse and mental health population. She has a passion for helping individuals in this specific population and uses her experience to help clients develop self-confidence, increase self-esteem, learn problem solving techniques, and learn to implement the proper tools to utilize on their healing journey.
