MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Geoffrey Phillips is a board-certified psychiatrist (ABPN). His educational background includes an undergraduate degree in English and French literature, and he was an editor for a medical group for seven years before studying medicine. He completed his medical degree and psychiatry residency at the University of California, Irvine.
During his year as Chief Resident, Dr. Phillips attended cognitive therapy training at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia, and he remains a member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. For more than a decade, Dr. Phillips maintained a private practice in Orange County where he combined psychiatric medication management with cognitive therapy, and he has taught cognitive therapy skills to psychiatry residents in training at UC Irvine and UC Riverside.
Dr. Phillips has been an inpatient psychiatrist for nearly two decades at local hospitals including St. Joseph Hospital in Orange, Anaheim Global, Chapman Hospital, Royale Health in Santa Ana, and the Long Beach VA. He also specialized in addiction medicine and was part of the inaugural group to be certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM) in 2009.
Dr. Phillips has served as director of inpatient and outpatient addiction programs in southern California and has been director of inpatient psychiatry programs, including most recently, the geropsychiatry inpatient program at the Long Beach VA. Here, Dr. Phillips has led a multidisciplinary team taking care of Veterans. In 2020, he joined the team at AMFM exclusively.
