This Continuing Education Unit (CEU) presentation explores experiential therapy as an effective treatment modality for adolescents in residential treatment settings. Experiential therapy, often referred to as “action-oriented” therapy, has emerged as a valuable approach in treating adolescents facing various mental health challenges. Unlike traditional talk therapy, experiential therapy engages adolescents in hands-on activities and experiences to explore and address their emotions, behaviors and relationships. Experiential therapy offers numerous benefits for adolescents, including enhanced emotional expression, improved interpersonal skills, increased self-esteem and opportunities for personal growth.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Identify the benefits of residential treatment for adolescents.
  • Identify successful treatment modalities in adolescent residential care settings
  • Recognize the need for research and an evidence base that examines the efficacy of
    experiential therapy.
