City Solitude

Methodology: This study is based on a survey of 3,002 respondents across the United States conducted in March 2026. Participants were asked to identify the place in their city where they most like to sit alone for a moment of uninterrupted quiet time. Respondents selected from a list of common solitude spots such as parks, libraries, museum courtyards, and public plazas, alongside specific well-known locations within their city where applicable. The survey was carried out online using a nationally representative panel of U.S. adults and balanced across gender, household income, and geographic region to reflect the broader population. Results were weighted where necessary to align with national population benchmarks, ensuring a balanced snapshot of where people across the country most like to find a quiet place to sit alone and enjoy a short moment of calm.
